Based on Infonetics market research, data for first quarter 2013 is not a big surprise for industry gurus. Telcos are adding IPTV subscribers. Are they harmful to the cable operators?

Growth ways of IPTV and cable subscribers is go separate ways. One is rising and the other is getting increasingly low.

 

Q1 of 2013 in North America showed that number IPTV users increased for 6 % globally, while cable operators lost around 1 % users.

China still has largest IPTV market – 22 million users in Q1 2013. IPTV is also experiencing strong growth in the Middle East, where the number of users grew for 42 % in the same period of the year.

One of the US providers surpassed 10-million U-Verse Internet and video customers. This company also said they added 265,000 TV customers in the quarter.

Cable side: 5 largest cable providers combined total of 93 million customers.
