More and more people are using their tablets and smart phones as the first screen, while TV is running in the background. Make the first screen apps.
While we were talking about TV as the first screen in our living room, now is time for confession – TV is not the center and the first screen of our home entertainment. Tablets and mobile devices are. We are using mobile device while watching TV. Some ideas of building second screen apps (apps for their favorite shows, social TV startups offering chats and check-ins on the second screen) were good, but the others don’t work at all.
And as the author said: “The best new apps will be the ones that provide additional utility without trying to monopolize a screen that TV viewers already use for something else.”
